Lady in the Water

“Time is running out for a happy ending.”

Someone keeps slipping into the pool at a Philadelphia apartment complex at night, and Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti), the superintendent, pulls a young woman out of the water. She calls herself Story (Bryce Dallas Howard), a figure from a bedtime tale trying to find her way home. M. Night Shyamalan fills the building with tenants, and the film treats a made-up tale as a thing ordinary people can still believe in and act on together.
