Oscar François de Jarjayes (Catriona MacColl) was raised as a son because her father had none, and she now commands the guards at Versailles under Louis XVI (Terence Budd) and Marie Antoinette (Christine Böhm). Among the powdered nobles, she begins to see how hard the poor of France actually live. Jacques Demy, working from Riyoko Ikeda's manga, scores it with Michel Legrand's music.
