In 1963, a countryside elementary school sits in the middle of the Cold War, until an air raid siren sounds and warns of an imminent nuclear attack. The teachers, among them Mr. Calkins (William Daniels) and Mrs. Maxton (Jane Connell), have to decide what to tell the children and how fast to move. Frank Perry shoots it like a docudrama, plain and close, so the panic looks like ordinary school hours.
