L'Âge d'or
“A surrealist masterpiece.”
A man (Gaston Modot) and a woman (Lya Lys) are desperate to be alone together, and every attempt is broken up by relatives, priests and guests in evening dress. Their families, the Church and polite society keep stepping between them, and the film moves from one interrupted scene to the next. Luis Buñuel, working from a screenplay written with Salvador Dalí, tells much of it through title cards and cuts the scenes together like a dream.
