Albania, just after communism, and two Italians are setting up a shoe factory that will never make a shoe. Fiore (Michele Placido) and his younger partner Gino (Enrico Lo Verso) need a local to front the company and collect the government money, and they settle on the old man Selimi (Piro Milkani). Amelio follows Gino into the countryside once Selimi vanishes, filming the roads and the faces on them without hurry.
