Lan Yu
Chen Handong (Hu Jun) is a wealthy, well-connected businessman in Beijing who keeps his private life to himself. He takes up with Lan Yu (Liu Ye), a young man from the countryside who has come to the capital to study, and the two begin an affair in 1989, the year of the Tiananmen Square protests. Stanley Kwan stays close to the pair as the city shifts around them, and the film is mostly about what each man will and won't say to the other.
