“They survived the second World War, now they must survive the cleanup”

Sergeant Carl Rasmussen (Roland Møller) wants every German left on Denmark's coast gone, and in May 1945 he is handed a squad of boys, Sebastian Schumann (Louis Hofmann) among them, to clear the beaches of the two million mines buried there. Martin Zandvliet sends them crawling across the sand on their stomachs, probing with their bare hands. One wrong move and a boy is gone, and there are only so many boys.
