Nick Lassiter (Tom Selleck), a jewel thief, is caught red-handed and offered a way out of prison: break into the heavily guarded German Embassy and steal millions in gems. Roger Young puts him in the middle of the job with Inspector John Becker (Bob Hoskins) and the authorities watching.
