“Guinness...The Great Lover!”

George Bird (Alec Guinness), a salesman of agricultural machinery, hears from his doctor that he hasn't long to live and withdraws his savings to spend them at an exclusive seaside resort. Henry Cass, working from a script by J. B. Priestley, sets him down among the hotel's wealthy guests, who have no idea who he is. Among them is Sheila Rockingham (Beatrice Campbell), and between the two of them a warm affection begins.
