Last Life in the Universe

“Why bother with suicide?”

Kenji (Tadanobu Asano) is a Japanese librarian in Bangkok who keeps his apartment in strict order and spends most of his days thinking about ways to die. Then he sees a girl killed, and her older sister Noi (Sinitta Boonyasak) comes into his life, a stranger who shares no easy language with him. Pen-Ek Ratanaruang lets the two of them talk in broken Thai, Japanese and English, finding what they can use of each.
