Last Tango in Paris

(1972)Directed by Bernardo Bertolucci129 min · NC-17Drama, Romance
“When you see a love story, it's only a movie. When you feel it with every nerve in your body, it's a masterpiece.”

Why would a recently widowed American take an empty Paris apartment and ask the young woman he meets there for no names, no pasts, nothing outside its walls? Paul (Marlon Brando) and Jeanne (Maria Schneider) keep to that bargain, and Bernardo Bertolucci stays with them in the rooms where it plays out. Under the rule that they will not know each other, the film is about how much a person can hide from someone they are holding.
