Late Spring
In 1949, during the Allied Occupation of Japan, Noriko (Setsuko Hara) is 27 and content to keep house for her widowed father, Shukichi (Chishū Ryū). Her aunt Masa insists that a daughter left unmarried will end up alone, and Yasujirō Ozu follows the quiet work of persuading both of them. A parent's wish for his child's future and a child's wish to stay where she is cannot both be granted.
