Laurel Canyon

“Somewhere between Hollywood and the rest of the world.”

Sam (Christian Bale) wants a tidy, respectable start to his adult life, so he and his fiancée Alex (Kate Beckinsale) plan to spend a short while in his mother's house in Laurel Canyon. Jane (Frances McDormand), a record producer, lives there loosely, with a bandmate for company and her own habits. Lisa Cholodenko sets mother and son under one roof, where each of them keeps measuring the other and neither can quite stop.
