The Bondurant brothers run bootleg whiskey out of rural Virginia during Prohibition, moving product with the confidence of men who believe themselves untouchable. Jack (Shia LaBeouf) and Forrest (Tom Hardy) collide with a corrupt officer, Charlie Rakes (Guy Pearce), who decides to make an example of them. John Hillcoat frames their collision as the violent end of a world where family loyalty and old codes no longer offer protection.
