Le Amiche

In Turin in 1955, Clelia (Eleonora Rossi Drago) comes home from Rome to open a branch of the fashion atelier she works for, having left the city as a poor girl. At her hotel she meets a circle of wealthy women, and Momina De Stefani (Yvonne Furneaux) and Nene (Valentina Cortese) soon draw her into their company. Antonioni adapts Cesare Pavese's novella and lets the five women's talk and silences carry each scene.
