Le Havre

Marcel Marx (André Wilms) shines shoes on the streets of Le Havre and wants only to get home each evening to his ailing wife Arletty (Kati Outinen). Then he meets Idrissa (Blondin Miguel), a young African refugee the police are hunting for deportation, and Marcel decides to hide him. Aki Kaurismäki sets this in a port city where neighbors and shopkeepers owe each other small favors, and kindness becomes ordinary work.
