“Poor Gaspard...”

Four men in a shared cell at La Santé Prison have a plan nobody outside it knows about, and then a fifth man, Claude Gaspard (Marc Michel), is moved in. They have to decide whether to tell him, so they do, and Roland Darban (Jean Keraudy) and the others go to work on the concrete floor with a bed post. Jacques Becker, who cast mostly non-actors, follows them through the sewers, where every hour risks the guards finding the hole.
