Léon Morin, Priest

Barny (Emmanuelle Riva) is a widow and a Marxist, raising her daughter in Occupied France, who walks into confession only to tease the priest. Léon Morin (Jean-Paul Belmondo) is young and quick, willing to argue anything with her, and Jean-Pierre Melville follows their talks as they stretch from one visit to the next. The faith she mocks and the man who holds it keep pulling at her, and she can't tell which is the stronger tug.
