“Fight. Dream. Hope. Love.”

Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) wants only to be a free man after nineteen years in prison for stealing bread, but he breaks his parole to build a new life. Javert (Russell Crowe), the policeman who guarded him, will not stop hunting him, and the chase draws in the girl Valjean raises and the students gathering to revolt. Tom Hooper had the cast sing live on set, and he keeps the camera close on their faces.
