“Everyone in the world deserves a day like this.”

Jay Trotter (Richard Dreyfuss), a Miami cab driver with a gambling habit he can't kick, goes to the track on a day when every bet he places comes in. Joe Pytka fills the grandstand and the betting windows with hustlers and regulars, all of them talking at once. Jay's wife Pam (Teri Garr) wants him home and steady, and his friend Looney (David Johansen) wants him at the next window.
