Let Joy Reign Supreme
In the 18th-century Régence, the Duke Philip of Orléans (Philippe Noiret) rules France for a child king while his court drinks and the state decays. His minister, Abbot Dubois (Jean Rochefort), keeps things running as revolts flare in the provinces, and in Brittany the Marquis de Pontcallec (Jean-Pierre Marielle) begins to plot against the Crown. Bertrand Tavernier sets the regent and his abbot side by side, two old friends who share every vice and every secret.
