Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover) are LAPD detectives deep in a case involving stolen weapons and a corrupt ex-cop when a Internal Affairs investigator, Lorna Cole (Rene Russo), joins their unit. The three of them pursue Jack Travis (Stuart Wilson), a former general running guns and explosives through the city. By the end, Riggs understands that the job works best when you stop trying to do it alone.
