“Through mountains and valleys ... through towns and villages ... the cry that becomes a flag is heard!”

It is 1910, and the Mexican Revolution is only beginning to reach the villages. Six peasants known as the Lions of San Pablo, among them Don Tiburcio Maya (Antonio R. Frausto) and Melitón Botello (Manuel Tamés), decide to join the army of Pancho Villa (Domingo Soler) and end the suffering at home. Fernando de Fuentes follows them into a civil war where the hardship is certain and none of the six has any promise of coming back.
