Letters from Iwo Jima

“The battle of Iwo Jima seen through the eyes of the Japanese soldiers.”

General Kuribayashi (Ken Watanabe) arrives on Iwo Jima to defend the island against the American invasion, and he wants his men to hold it for as long as they can. Private Saigo (Kazunari Ninomiya), a young soldier in the ranks, wants only to get home. Clint Eastwood, who shot this back to back with Flags of Our Fathers, tells the battle from the Japanese side, and the men on both ends of the chain of command write home as they wait.
