Life Is a Miracle

Luka Đurić (Slavko Štimac) has no reason to think anything will change for a railway clerk in the Bosnian hills, until the war starts, his wife leaves with a local musician, and his son is conscripted and then captured. To get the boy back, Luka is ordered to guard Sabaha (Nataša Tapušković), a young Muslim nurse who is meant to be traded as a hostage. Emir Kusturica sets it in the early 1990s, and the frame comes down to Luka beside the railway line he keeps.
