“Life will surprise you”

Will Dempsey (Oscar Isaac) and Abby (Olivia Wilde) meet as students in New York, fall in love, and marry, and then learn they are expecting their first child. Dan Fogelman follows that one event outward through several families, from Manhattan to Spain, across more than one generation. The story keeps coming back to Will and Abby, and to what each of them is carrying for the other.
