“The endgame is the only thing that'll set you free.”

After eighteen years in prison, Eugene Brown (Cuba Gooding Jr.) comes home to Washington DC wanting one thing, to give the neighborhood kids the future nobody gave him. He starts the Big Chair Chess Club and sets up boards for boys like Tahime (Malcolm M. Mays) and Peanut (Kevin Hendricks), who have never pictured themselves going anywhere. Jake Goldberger lets the bond between Eugene and Tahime build slowly, one game and one lesson at a time.
