“What if a pill could make you rich and powerful?”

Edward Morra (Bradley Cooper), a struggling writer, receives a pill called NZT-48 that arranges his mind into pure focus. Within hours he absorbs languages, finishes his novel, and begins trading stocks with preternatural timing. Neil Burger sends him rocketing through New York in ambition, but when he climbs higher, he finds the woman he loves (Abbie Cornish) is the only thing that grounds him.
