Limonov: The Ballad

(2024)Directed by Kirill Serebrennikov133 minHistory, Drama

Eduard Limonov (Ben Whishaw) writes poems in Soviet Russia, then leaves for America and ends up in Manhattan as a millionaire's butler, still waving a switchblade and still sure of his own greatness. Kirill Serebrennikov follows him through Russia, New York and Paris across the second half of the twentieth century, taken from Emmanuel Carrère's biography. The film puts one man's hunger to be somebody next to the people he used up getting there.
