“The search begins”

In Calcutta, a five-year-old boy (Sunny Pawar) is alone on streets thousands of kilometers from the home he cannot find his way back to. Garth Davis follows him through the city, then to Australia and the couple who adopt him, Sue (Nicole Kidman) and John Brierley (David Wenham). Twenty-five years on, the grown Saroo (Dev Patel) starts searching for the family he lost, with every year of silence weighing on whether any of them are still there.
