Lyon Gaultier (Jean-Claude Van Damme) deserts the Foreign Legion and reaches the United States with almost no money. His brother lies near death, and his sister-in-law Hélène (Lisa Pelikan) cannot cover the hospital bills or raise her daughter Nicole (Ashley Johnson) alone. Sheldon Lettich sends Lyon into the underground fights, where he trades blows for cash among shouting crowds, bloodied and still on his feet.
