Little Children

In a quiet suburb, the playground is where the day's real business gets done. Sarah Pierce (Kate Winslet), a housewife who feels like a visitor in her own life, starts meeting Brad Adamson (Patrick Wilson), a married neighbor, and the two begin an affair. Todd Field sets it beside the arrival of a registered sex offender, and the film keeps asking how well anyone understands the people living a few doors away.
