“From the creator of "Alice" and "Faust" comes a most unusual baby…”

In a Czech apartment building, Karel (Jan Hartl) and Bozena (Veronika Žilková) are told they cannot have a child. To ease his wife's grief, Karel digs a root out of the backyard, chops it and varnishes it into the shape of a baby. Bozena takes it for the real thing, and Jan Švankmajer shoots the whole business in a deadpan live-action style, with stop-motion for the root.
