“Louisa May Alcott’s Immortal Story!”

Jo (Katharine Hepburn) is the second of four sisters in the years after the Civil War, and she wants to be a writer more than she wants anything a young woman is supposed to want. Around her are Amy (Joan Bennett), Beth (Jean Parker), and a sharp-tongued Aunt March (Edna May Oliver), each pulling the household a different way. George Cukor stays close to Jo as she scribbles and argues and resists the future her family expects of her.
