Live and Become

Schlomo (Moshe Agazai) is a Christian boy of nine in an Ethiopian refugee camp, starving in 1980 when the Falashas are secretly airlifted to Israel. On the eve of the transport, a Jewish mother loses her son, and she takes Schlomo in his place, giving him the dead boy's name. Radu Mihăileanu follows him into Israel, where he grows up as a Jew, and the lie he carries makes every kindness there cost him his own name.
