“How did they ever make a movie of Lolita?”

A British professor, Humbert Humbert (James Mason), rents a room in a small American town and finds himself fixed on the landlady's daughter. The boarding house belongs to Charlotte Haze (Shelley Winters), a widow who has her eye on him, but it's her teenage daughter Dolores (Sue Lyon) he cannot stop watching. Stanley Kubrick shot this one in black and white, and what runs between Humbert and Lolita is a private hold that neither of them ever names aloud.
