“"A simple prank, a game nobody won..."”

A young woman passing through rural Tennessee in the early 1970s ends up in the middle of a feud she has no part in, one between two neighboring families, the Feathers and the Gutshalls. Laban Feather (Rod Steiger) and Pap Gutshall (Robert Ryan) lead their clans, and Roonie Gill (Season Hubley) is the stranger caught between them. Richard C. Sarafian shoots the hills and farmhouses in rough, grainy light, close on faces that give nothing away.
