Stacy (John Robinson), Jay (Emile Hirsch) and Tony Alva are teenage surfers in 1970s Venice Beach who want to be somebody. Catherine Hardwicke follows them as they build a rough, low-slung style of skateboarding that spreads far beyond their neighborhood. Stacy, the careful one, and Jay, the reckless one, are about to find out how a friendship holds up once the hobby turns into a business.
