Lorenzo's Oil
“Some people make their own miracles.”
Augusto (Nick Nolte) and Michaela Odone (Susan Sarandon) are raising their five-year-old son Lorenzo in Virginia when he is diagnosed with adrenoleukodystrophy, a degenerative nerve disease so rare that no one is working on a cure. Neither parent has medical training, and George Miller follows them as they teach themselves the science. Every week they spend in libraries and arguments is a week Lorenzo's condition keeps worsening.
