Lost Illusions
“Criticism is easy, and art is difficult”
Lucien de Rubempré (Benjamin Voisin) is a young poet from a family of provincial printers, and he wants his verses read in Paris. He arrives in the city with his patron Louise de Bargeton (Cécile de France), then finds that the literary world runs on newspapers, favors and the sale of opinions. Giannoli, adapting Balzac, follows Lucien as he tries to keep faith with his poems while Paris teaches him what a name is worth.
