Lost in America

After a promotion falls through, David Howard (Albert Brooks) talks his wife Linda (Julie Hagerty) into quitting her job and cashing out everything they own. They buy a Winnebago in Los Angeles, planning to drive across America the way the bikers did in Easy Rider. Albert Brooks plays the idea of dropping out against two people who still carry the habits of their old life, and the film treats that gap as the whole joke.
