Lost in Translation

“Everyone wants to be found.”

Bob Harris (Bill Murray), a fading actor in Tokyo to film a whiskey commercial, finds himself adrift. Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), a newlywed in her twenties, wanders the same hotels feeling equally untethered. They begin to spend quiet afternoons together, speaking in half-formed sentences that come when two people have stopped trying to perform. Coppola shoots Tokyo as a place of beautiful surfaces and muffled longing.
