Love and Death on Long Island

Giles De'Ath (John Hurt), a widowed English novelist who despises modern popular culture, walks into the wrong screen and sits through a teen sex comedy by mistake. The face of its young star, Ronnie Bostock (Jason Priestley), keeps him in his seat, and afterward he cannot stop thinking about him. Richard Kwietniowski lets the quiet scenes of Giles at home carry the weight, and he plays the whole thing at the pace of a man ashamed to be seen looking.
