Love and Larceny

Gerardo Latini (Vittorio Gassman) is an aspiring actor who keeps failing to move from comedy into tragedy, until his knack for mimicking the dialects of Italy gets him pulled into a scam against a rich cloth-merchant. Dino Risi hands Gassman the whole range of voices and lets him use them. The image that stays is Gerardo in the middle of a performance, a different accent in his mouth and a stage actor's heavy grief still showing in his face.
