“Addicted to one-night stands or dependent on one another?”

Jamie Randall (Jake Gyllenhaal) sells pharmaceuticals in 1990s Pittsburgh, and his easy charm has never failed him with customers or women. Edward Zwick follows him to Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway), a free spirit who keeps everyone at arm's length, including the doctors treating her Parkinson's disease. Gyllenhaal and Hathaway stay close on the screen together, two people who agreed to nothing serious and are already past that.
