“Schoolgirls by day... Call girls by night...”

A few Tokyo schoolgirls have found out that older men will pay just to spend an afternoon with them, and Hiromi (Asumi Miwa) wants a ring she cannot afford. Hideaki Anno, in his first live-action feature, adapts Ryū Murakami's novel and follows her from one paid date to the next, and each one asks a little more of her. The money buys the ring and the afternoon, and the film keeps wondering what the girls are being asked to sell.
