Love in the Time of Cholera

“How long would you wait for love?”

Florentino Ariza (Javier Bardem) is a telegraph boy in Colombia when he sees Fermina Daza (Giovanna Mezzogiorno), the daughter of a mule trader, and decides he will love no one else. Mike Newell opens with a funeral, then goes back more than fifty years to the day it began. Florentino keeps his promise long after Fermina marries the doctor Juvenal Urbino (Benjamin Bratt), and the film counts what that promise takes from him.
