“Love means never having to say you’re sorry.”

Oliver Barrett IV (Ryan O'Neal), a Harvard law student from a wealthy family, falls hard for Jennifer Cavilleri (Ali MacGraw), a music student who is the daughter of a working-class baker. When they marry, his father, Oliver Barrett III (Ray Milland), threatens to disown him. Arthur Hiller keeps the focus on the two of them, quick and bantering with each other, and on how little either needs besides the other.
