Carol Templeton (Doris Day) loses a client to rival Jerry Webster (Rock Hudson), who landed the account with a night out and a few drinks, and she sets out to take it back. Her plan is to pose as a researcher and slip into his secret VIP campaign, so she can talk its mystery scientist over to her own agency. If Jerry learns who she is, she loses the client and her standing on Madison Avenue, and Delbert Mann keeps her walking close to that edge.
