In 1957, a delivery driver named Deke Rivers (Elvis Presley) is spotted by Glenda Markle (Lizabeth Scott), a publicist, and Tex Warner (Wendell Corey), a country-western musician who wants him on the road. Hal Kanter directs Elvis's first starring role, with Dolores Hart as Susan, a singer in the group who admires him from the start. Under all the promises of fame, the film is about a young man who has a gift and the people who see what it could be worth.
